Welcome to 2019!
I am William (Bill) Frank. I have a long history in the equipment business. The preservation of John Deere history runs thick in my blood.
DCAPC has a new board of directors, packed full of energy and talent. Tylor Schwartz is once again Vice President, Craig Vierck is Secretary, Sue Michael is Treasurer. Our new board members are Jeff Peters and Dale Schwantes. The returning board members are Harlow Stark and Daryl Wuenne. I can’t go on without thanking our past president Daryl, Treasurer Lisa Wanie, and board members Russ Sponem, and John Kasmiski for their dedication last year.
This year’s show feature will be Oliver (their state show), White, Cletrac, Hart Parr and celebrating Bolens 100th Anniversary. The school house will feature vintage spinning wheels, hand cards, spindles and fiber prep tools.
Members, please remember this is your club. As your board, our job is to manage the day to day needs for the club to function. Our club survives and grows with donations and volunteers. DCAPC needs club members to volunteer labor, ideas, and stories are equally important.
As your president, I will focus on volunteering and getting our younger members involved. Learning how to do this is my goal. Club members please write down changes (anonymously) you would like to see that will bring excitement and happiness to your DCAPC involvement.

Update from the Barn Committee:

the Barn Committee is prioritizing
what needs to happen on the inside of
the barn. We are hopeful to get as many
of the following projects done as possible before the 2019 show. Even with winter beating on our doorsteps, we all know the show is always just around the corner!
On the upper level of the barn, we have drawn up plans for the Dairy Display. With the help of a local expert, we have acquired and documented valuable information on each piece of milking equipment which was previously located in the Engine Building. This has helped immensely in arranging and identifying each piece for the display.
On the lower level, we have a few good folks who are interested in building the horse stalls. Plans are also in the works for a manure carrier to be installed. For demonstration purposes, as well as lighting the displays, we need to run electrical service to the barn.
Outside of the barn, we will patiently wait for good weather so we can regrade the barn hill. If you climbed the barn bank even once last year, you know what we are talking about! By late summer the barn should have cured enough that we will be able to attach the battens onto the barn, closing up the cracks between the barn boards. The barn will look very
finished at this time!
What is quite exciting for all of us on the Barn Committee is the generous donation of a barn quilt. The quilt will be attached on the eastern end of the barn, facing the flea market. The quilt will be lifted into place at the same time we acquire the lift for attaching the battens. So many members of the club truly appreciate the barn and the history of dairy farming it represents. This thoughtful donation will add beauty to our efforts in preserving that history.
Two summers ago we received a donation of an old style corn crib, which was placed on the show grounds near the barn. Unfortunately, it has seen better days and is beyond repair. Our good friend Dave Paul has graciously stepped forward and is building a new corn crib, using the old one as a pattern. David greatly helped the committee last year by recreating the louvered windows for our barn.
Lastly, the Barn Committee has received a number of logs as a donation. We are hopeful February will bring us some good weather so we can do a bit of sawing out at the sawmill. The boards are needed for many of this year’s projects, as well as future barn projects. The Barn Committee is truly blessed with talented folks willing to step forward and help get the job done. Thank you everyone for your support!
A Note From Your Secretary:
There is a work day every Wednesday during the day and in the evening, at the grounds. Help is always appreciated to keep our grounds looking nice and updated.
We have a list of projects that need to be worked on, so if you can’t make it on Wednesday during the day and in the evening, we can arrange for you to take a project home and work on it or come on a weekend of your choice to the grounds.
Our project leader is Jim Richardson. You may reach him if interested in a project at 920-319-1773 or you may call any board member. Our evening (4-7pm) project leader is Bill Madison, 920-319-2105. Evening work on Wednesday is temporarily suspended til spring.

We are in need of a dedicated to chair the raffle committee. Our annual raffle item is traditionally taken to events around the state in an effort to sell tickets in an effort to raise funds for our club. Please contact any board member if you have an interest in this position.

Learn to make a braided rug with “rags”. No sewing required! Donna Thomas will teach two sessions of this class on Saturday August 3, 2019 in the schoolhouse during our show. #1 Class time 9:00 – 11:30 am #2 Class time 12:30 – 3:00 pm Class fee $15 includes pattern, instructions and materials enough to make a table mat. Learn to paint using real leaves & sundries to design your very own silk scarf. Michelle will teach two sessions of this class Sunday, Aug 4 in the schoolhouse during our show. #1 Class time 10:00 – 11:30 am #2 Class time 12:30 – 2:00 pm Class fee $20 includes black silk scarf, instructions & materials needed to create your own uniquely designed, hand-painted silk scarf. No prior

• We really appreciate quilts for our silent auction! If you have time to make one for us, please contact Michelle (920)386-2565 or firstname.lastname@example.org and let her know. A quilt on the back wall to be seen as you enter the schoolhouse adds color and festivity to whole room! Needless to say, it also keeps bidders coming in all weekend long to compete for winning
the big item. Quilts, afghans, baby blankets, bedspreads all work wonderfully, and they need not be new. Anything in clean, like new condition is appreciated. We also particularly like anything handmade. Woodwork, needlework, crafts of all kinds. We are very happy to promote your skills and/or business. I am always willing to meet you at the schoolhouse during the week before the show, or anytime during the show, if you would like to add something to our auction or display.
• Our schoolhouse is seriously in need of 4 double hung windows on the east side of the building. The original windows were removed by the Jefferson County Historical Society and boarded up long before we acquired the building. We have functioned this way since December 2010 (when we moved the building to our grounds) with temporary storm windows inserted into the openings. It is time we replaced the temporary storms with real windows. Is there anyone out there with an interest in duplicating the design of the original windows currently in place on the west side of the building? Another option would be to purchase ready-made windows and have them installed by someone who knows what he/she is doing. We also have need of repair to the lovely hardwood floors in the back room area, and we would like to proceed with plans to remove the “deck” that once covered stairs down to the basement from inside the school. Michelle and committee would love to work with someone to improve our schoolhouse! Please call or email Michelle if you would like to get involved.
German Apple Pancake
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 green apples, peeled, cored and cut into bite sized pieces
1/3 cup raisins
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup flour
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
brown sugar and butter for topping
Heat oven to 350°. Put 1 tablespoon butter in 10-inch iron skillet and place in oven (to preheat the skillet).
Beat eggs at high speed until foamy. Gradually add milk alternately with flour. Add granulated sugar. Continue beating 3 minutes more. Pour into heated skillet and bake 25 – 30 minutes, or until puffy and golden brown.
Meanwhile, in small skillet melt 1 tablespoon butter. Add apple pieces, raisins, 1 tablespoon brown sugar and cinnamon. Cook and stir over low flame until apples are tender. Set aside.
When pancake is done, immediately pour apple/raisin mixture on top, add brown sugar and butter, if desired, return to warm oven to melt. Serves 2 – 4. Recipe can easily be doubled and baked in a larger skillet.
