Hello to all our DCAPC members and friends,  Did we have spring this year? When out at the club grounds please use caution when off of the gravel roads, the grass areas are soft due to all the rain we’ve had. We are well into our grass cutting program; volunteers are always welcomed. When working around the club grounds, please use caution; we want to avoid damage to our buildings and/or equipment.

Spring and summer are always busy times on the grounds. The barn crew will be working on the dairy display, and batten boards need to be installed on the siding. Playground equipment needs to be painted, and the big water tank also needs to be painted. Repairs are needed on equipment in the steam building and the grounds can always use sprucing up. Wednesday there is always a crew on the grounds, come on out and volunteer, we always have a good time!

Volunteers are the backbone to the success of our organization. The need for your help is greatly needed. Kitchen help is always needed; we also need help in the fry shack. Our club makes a lot of money off of food sales. However, a lot of time and energy is needed to provide the food and drink. Please consider helping out, drop me a call if you want to volunteer your time. Our annual show worker sign-up meeting will take place on Sunday, July 28. Please consider joining us at 2:00 on that day to sign up for an hour or two to help out somewhere during the show. Every little bit helps.

I would like to thank Lisa and Todd Wanie for their efforts in securing a brand new Scag zero turn mower for our raffle this year. DCAPC is very thankful to Metalcraft of Mayville for their donation of the Scag lawnmower.

When you bump into Lisa Wanie, thank her for last year’s term on the board of directors. Lisa was our treasurer last year. I forgot to thank Lisa in our last news letter. I’m very sorry for that Lisa and thank you very much.

Our raffle crew is in need of help this year selling tickets. Please come out to help if you can.

2018 Raffle Winners, The Allen Schmitz family of Juneau County, WI are pictured below with DCAPC Board member, Harlow Stork.

It is with great sadness that we inform you that we have lost another valued member of our club. Harlow Stork passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 23. Not only was he a member of our board of directors, he also handled
our music, the raffle and advertising for the show. We will miss him dearly.  RIP Harlow and thank you for all your hard work.


Update from the Barn Committee:

With winter finally in our past, the Barn Committee has been busy working on 
the dairy display on the upper level of the barn. Wooden shelves are being secured
to the girths on the western end of the barn to keep the equipment off the floor and at a good viewing height for the folks who will be attending our show in August. Along with displaying the various pieces of equipment we possess, we are planning on creating placards which will tell more about each item. No doubt show attendees may have additional information to share with us regarding the dairy equipment, so we feel the placards will be an on-going project, being updated as needed.

The barn quilt, which was donated by Winfred & Lois Braemer (in photo, right) has been completed and is awaiting its permanent placement on the eastern end of the barn, facing the flea market. Gini Ellens created the quilt for us and it turned out beautifully! It is bright and cheery and will look amazing on our barn. We are all quite grateful to the Braemer’s for this thoughtful donation.

Plans are being drawn up to install one of the manure carriers  
from the Engine Building into the lower level of the barn.

On the outside of the barn, plans to re-grade the barn bank are in the works and should be completed in the next few weeks  It was suggested we add one more layer of stone to
the stone wall, so that is also on our agenda to complete before the show. Dave Paul recreated a new corn crib for us using measurements from the broken down one located near the roadway. The finished project looks great and we are grateful to Dave for taking on the challenge. We have several ideas as to what we will display inside the corn crib during the show. Additionally, Hugh and Paul Roberts of Roberts Brothers Painting
in Randolph, have donated their materials and skills to paint the corn crib. Thank you to the Roberts Brothers, we do appreciate your help!

•She’s back! Donna Thomas will teach No-sew Braided Rugs
Learn to make a braided rug with “rags”. No sewing required! Donna Thomas will teach two sessions of this class on Saturday August 3, 2019 in the schoolhouse during our show. #1 Class time 9:00 – 11:30 am #2 Class time 12:30 – 3:00 pm Class fee $15 includes pattern, instructions and materials enough to make a table mat. Class fee does not include event gate fee of $7. Call Michelle Zahn @ 920-386-2565 to register early (or show up for class and hope there is still room for you!) Limit 10 students per session.
• Paint a silk scarf with Michelle Zahn
Learn to paint using real leaves & sundries to design your very own silk scarf. Michelle will teach two sessions of this class Sunday, Aug 4 in the schoolhouse during our show. #1 Class time 10:00 – 11:30 am #2 Class time 12:30 – 2:00 pm Class fee $20 includes black silk scarf, instructions & materials needed to create your own uniquely designed, hand-painted silk scarf. No prior
experience is necessary. Class fee does not include event gate fee of $7. Call Michelle Zahn @ 920-386-2565 to register early (or show up for class and hope there is still room for you!) Limit 5 students per session.
• We really appreciate quilts for our silent auction! If you have time to make one for us, please contact Michelle (920)386-2565 or thesoaplady@sbcglobal.net and let her know. A quilt on the back wall to be seen as you enter the schoolhouse adds color and festivity to whole room! Needless to say, it also keeps bidders coming in all weekend long to compete for winning
the big item. Quilts, afghans, baby blankets, bedspreads all work wonderfully, and they need not be new. Anything in clean, like new condition is appreciated. We also particularly like anything handmade. Woodwork, needlework, crafts of all kinds. We are very happy to promote your skills and/or business. I am always willing to meet you at the schoolhouse during the week before the show, or anytime during the show, if you would like to add something to our auction or display.
• Our schoolhouse is seriously in need of 4 double hung windows on the east side of the building. The original windows were removed by the Jefferson County Historical Society and boarded up long before we acquired the building. We have functioned this way since December 2010 (when we moved the building to our grounds) with temporary storm windows inserted into the openings. It is time we replaced the temporary storms with real windows. Is there anyone out there with an interest in duplicating the design of the original windows currently in place on the west side of the building? Another option would be to purchase ready-made windows and have them installed by someone who knows what he/she is doing. We also have need of repair to the lovely hardwood floors in the back room area, and we would like to proceed with plans to remove the “deck” that once covered stairs down to the basement from inside the school. Michelle and committee would love to work with someone to improve our schoolhouse! Please call or email Michelle if you would like to get involved.


Shop Notes:

What a winter!
We started with no heat in the shop and found that a new water heater
was needed before we could start the in-floor heat.
Several Wednesdays were missed due to bad weather.
The oldest people hauler has been refurbished. We would like to add a
steel roof, to replace the old canvas when funds are available.
A large surface planer is being readied for display in the sawmill building.
The Continental engine restoration was completed by Bud Affeld before he passed away. Now we need to complete work on the number 61 IH combine prior to next year’s show. Bud will be missed on the Wednesday crew as most of our engines need regular (weekly) maintenance to get any work done on the grounds.
Any mechanics out there looking for a challenge in retirement? We need your help at the club grounds.

Feature Recipe:

Baked Chicken Stuffed Tomatoes

1 1/2 pounds chicken breast meat, chopped
12 large, ripe tomatoes, stemmed, cored, reserve pulp
1 cup grated cheese (your favorite)
1/2 cup bran
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1/2 teaspoon fennel seed
Juice of one lemon
Olive oil
2 onions, chopped
1 teaspoon basil
1 tablespoon parsley

Saute’ onions, garlic, green pepper and parsley until tender. Add tomato pulp, basil and fennel. Stir.Add chicken.
Cook 5 minutes to blend flavors.
Add lemon juice, bran and cheese.
Stuff tomatoes with mixture. arrange in baking dish. Bake 20-30 minutes at 350.
